SD logoServe Direct specialises in organising teams to work on a wide variety of sustainable projects, always as part of a community effort. Since we first took a team to Uganda in 1999 we have learned that there is something for everyone to do and so we can always accommodate the skills that are available to us. Serve Uganda is the current major activity of Serve Direct.

Education is vital for any community. To date without exception, every trip has had a focus on the development of young people. Whether by building or improving existing facilities, supporting local teachers in the classroom or outside on the playing fields, working in schools provides an opportunity for all team mambers to be involved, from 13 years upwards.

Building PDF Print E-mail

buildingWe have undertaken a variety of building projects in relation to housing, education and medical facilities. Depending on the profile of a particular working group, we employ local resources whether to labour, construct or supervise certain activities. The aim is to get the best balance to achieve a successful project, whilst aiming to develop positive community relationships and team experiences.

Katale Primary School

Concreting of 7 classroom floors, which not only provided a better working environment, but reduces the risk of jigger infection. Jiggers are worms that burrow under the skin of feet and toes and where not treated can cause the loss of digits and infection.

Budu Market

Clearing of land, including termite mounds (which the host snakes did not approve) for the construction of a communal marketplace where farmers could sell their produce.

Katikamu

Construction of 2 houses for Habitat for Humanity , which demonstrates our flexible approach when working in partnership with other organisations where they have sustainable, community centred projects.

Busu

www.suubiclinic.co.uk

Construction of a maternity ward, laboratory and kitchen as an extension to an existing clinic that was established by a local man wanting to give something back to his community.

Busu Parents' Primary School and Suubi Nursery

In addition, we constructed concrete floors in these rural schools, being thankful for the discovery of 2 concrete mixers for hire as 80 tonnes of aggregates was mixed!
