- By volunteering on a team project.
- With a financial donation.

Most of what we do in ServeDirect is funded by personal donors who have a strong desire to see a real difference among the communities we serve. We also accept donations from businesses who have a social responsibility fund, and we are happy to keep all our donors informed about our progress in our work. As our work falls into the areas of Building Projects, Educational Support, and Medical Support, some of our business donors tend to be from these particular fields.
Many of our regular supporters go on working parties, as we find this helps them get more involved supporting the work and they are then able to bring back some of the enthusiasm to their own home communities. This all helps in building support for what we do.
People who go on team trips are responsible for raising the funds for their travel and also some money towards the work we are doing in our projects. As a way of raising funds for this, many people start up their own fundraising efforts, for example through online sites such as JustGiving. We encourage each team trip to have a single JustGiving fundraising effort so that the people on the trip can feel some ownership of their fundraising effort and it builds team spirit as they approach their target. It also enables a little give and take if some are more successful in raising funds than others.

ServeDirect is entirely run by volunteers. We like to keep things as informal as possible. People who have served on teams normally come back changed by the experience, and many want to go again as soon as possible. Volunteers are responsible for raising (or paying) into the team budget, normally around £1500 per person per trip, and this covers all work-related costs and materials, travel, accommodation, and any in-country leisure at the end of the visit.
