Meet Benon, a fan of BBC World News; a man with a passion for teaching

Master Arinaitwe Benon joined WTA a few years ago in the Maths and Physics department. Last term he was appointed Deputy Headteacher as part of Head Master Benard's new team. The new academic year starts next week, 5th February.
Benon is 32 years old. His wife and 5-year-old daughter live in Kampala and he visits them once every two weeks. Now he lives on site at school as a vital part of the staff presence. Benon is one of the most informed teachers on world issues, as he listens regularly to BBC World Service when he gets up at 4am!
In his own words: " I grew up in a simple, illiterate family, and to follow education when I was young was not easy. I spent seven years at primary school and had to walk 6½ kilometers back and forth to school with bare feet. I was 16 years old when I got my first ever pair of shoes when joining secondary school! After high school I had to make a choice regarding which course to offer at university. I wanted to study in a way that would change my life, and also help me touch the lives of children having the same difficulties that I had. I chose education and I could not find a better career in my life that could easily put me in direct contact with young children.
At this moment I am a qualified teacher in Physics and Mathematics at WTA and also substitute for the Head Master at our school. Teaching gives me the opportunity to serve people and to change the lives of our young people also to accompany them.
My dream is to start a primary school in the future where children who do not have the opportunity can get good and affordable education. I want to start that school with my wife in the village where I come from. This dream motivates me to work hard, which gives me the financial means to start this school. I know with God on my side that it will happen."
In the photo below, Benon is wearing the new staff 'uniform' shirt, with the school logo. Teacher Jimmy is wearing the WTA polo shirt. Orders can be taken for either style and delivery to the UK, of course is possible!
